Progreso Shopping Guide

You'll find a variety of vendors hawking souvenirs as well as activities right at the dock at Progreso. Prices for shopping right at the dock are reasonable. However, you're best choices for shopping will be at the Grand Plaza in Merida for folk art and local crafts.

Here's a small sample of items you'll find in Progreso:

Progreso Shopping Tips:

  • Many of the vendors accept both credit cards and cash. US Dollars are accepted by almost every vendor. Prices are in both USD and Pesos in in many cases.
  • Bartering / negotiating is an acceptable practice for some vendors. However, if for example, you are wishing to buy an original painting or craft by a well-known artist, the price is likely to be firm.

The official currency of Progreso is the Mexican Peso/MXN. Most places will take USD but you will get pesos in change. ATMs are available in the terminal.
