Shopping in Caldera, Costa Rica is one of the primary activities of tourist coming in from the Puerto Caldera port. The Sarchi Inland Village is one of the best places to visit for some shopping. The Central Market of the town sells items found only in Costa Rica. The Market is also the best place to find locally grown vegetables and fruits sold at affordable prices. Here's a small sample of items you'll find in Caldera, Costa Rica Islands:

Caldera, Costa Rica Shopping Tips:

  • U.S. Dollars are widely accepted however the common currency in Caldera is the Colon.
  • Bargaining is a tradition in decline throughout Costa Rica but haggling is still acceptable in outdoor markets

The official currency of Caldera is the Costa Rican colon. The US dollar has long been the second currency of Costa Rica. Taxi drivers and vendors are happy to take U.S. Dollars. However, outside the tourist areas nobody really refers to dollars. The vast majority of Costa Ricans gets paid in colones, and buy and sell in colones. Remember if you do use U.S. dollars you will get change in colones so make sure you may not want to pay with large bills. Credit cards are taken in the larger shops and most hotels and restaurants
