Puerto Costa Maya Cruise Destination Guide

Costa Maya cruise ship guests will find soft sand beaches, grass thatched palapas, and a coral reef a short distance off-shore called Banco Chinchorro, as well as several bars, restaurants, and shops. A new development called New Mahahual features a modern tourist shopping mall. The mall has a central plaza with saltwater pools and 'swim-up' style bars, in addition to several jewellery stores and many small shops selling souvenir trinkets.

There is close access to many of the lesser known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan including Chacchoben and Kohunlich. Puerto Costa Maya is also home to many ecological preserves. Sian Ka'an South of Tulum is a protected natural reserve, Banco Chinchorro is declared as a protected archaeological marine park, and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System in front of Xcalak is a natural reserve park.
