The Freestyle experience is extended to the younger cruisers through the Youth Programs on NCL. There is so much for kids to do onboard a Norwegian Cruise ship plus NCL makes it easy for them to connect with people their own age in a safe and fun environment. For the adults, this means the peace of mind and a little extra time for couples to reconnect as well. However, while there are plenty of ways for the kids to "do their own thing", there is ample opportunity for family time as well.
Norwegian's youth program is divided into groups based on age ranges:
- Teens (ages13-17)
- Navigators (ages 10-12)
- First Mates (ages 6-9)
- Juniors (ages 2-5)
Qualification of Kid's Program Staff
Each group in the Norwegian Youth Program has their own Director overseeing the program, their own dedicated space, and age–appropriate planned activities for their group. Norwegian’s youth staff are selected from various colleges and recreation programs. They are all trained in first aid and certified in CPR.
This information is provided as a general overview. It is best to verify the availability of services with the Norwegian Youth Program Staff for current pricing and operating hours once you are onboard.

Teens (Ages 13-17)
The Teens program on NCL features a more casual way for teens to hangout and connect in an environment that suits them. They can watch movies, play Wii games, listen to tunes, play video games and participate in karaoke. There is even more to do including basketball, volleyball, ping pong, pool parties and even their own dance club.
Navigators (Ages 10-12)
The kids in the Navigators program on a Norwegian cruise also have their own dedicated space that gives them a place to call their own. They can enjoy watching movies, Wii games, air hockey, scavenger hunts and karaoke – just to name a few. There are also special family activities planned and team building challenges. Under supervision of the Navigators Staff, they will have plenty of fun making new friends in a safe environment.
First Mates (Ages 6-9)
The First Mates program on NCL also has its own dedicated space. Kids can enjoy watching movies, pizza making parties, crafts and Wii games just to name a few. There are also special activities planned for them including pool parties and dance parties. Family activities are also planned.
Juniors (Ages 2-5)
The counselors in the Juniors program oversee developmental skill building activities, arts and crafts, storytelling and treasure hunt. Juniors have their own dedicated space that gives them a place to call their own. NCL staff does not change diapers. However, if your child is not toilet trained, parents are issued a beeper and are notified when it’s time for diaper duty.
Babysitting On Norwegian Cruises
Norwegian does not offer in-room babysitting. Instead, an after-hours program is available to take care of kids after 10 PM.
Norwegian Cruises After Hours Programs For Kids
NCL features group babysitting in the youth area for kids between the ages of 2-12, 10PM-1AM. The fee is $5/hour for the first child and $3/hour for each additional child from the same family. So plan a "date night" or "quiet time" just for two. Little ones not toilet trained have beepers provided to their parents when it’s time for a change.
